How to knit the Brioche stitch in two colors on Circular needles

In this tutorial you will discover how to knit the brioche stitch also known as "English ribs". You have probably seen it in the latest models in vogue, especially in the designs of Stephen West and Andrea Mowry.

comment tricoter le point de brioche

To help you understand how to knit the two color brioche in the round, we have prepared this tutorial including three videos: the brioche knit in the round, the increases and decreases in brioche. The brioche stitch is a really nice knit to look at, touch and wear. Knitted in a two-tone version, it has ribs with reversible colors for a knit that can be worn on the right side as well as on the wrong side! The brioche stitch results in a soft knit, thicker and therefore warmer than an ordinary knit.

CIRCULAR KNITTED BRIOCHE, TWO COLOR VERSION

A brioche stitch (in the round) is knit in two steps: first knit a round in which the stitches are knit and slipped ... Then we go back a second time on the row (or round) to knit the slipped stitches and slip the knit stitches.

The FIRST ROUND is the starting round during which we start the brioche stitch. This is a first round knit with the main color (at the beginning of the video).

The SECOND ROUND is a turn around during which we integrate the second color (at 4:30 minutes)

The THIRD ROUND is the "regular brioche stitch" knitted with the main color (at 8:00 minutes)

The FOURTH ROUND is the "regular brioche stitch" knitted with contrasting color (at 10:46 minutes)

When you have completed the first and second rounds, simply repeat rounds 3 and 4 until the desired length is achieved.

Circular Brioche in summary

Cast on the required number of stitches (even number), join to knit in the round and place a marker to identify the beginning of the rounds.
.
FIRST ROUND WITH MAIN COLOR ♦ Knit a stitch, bring the yarn in front of the work, * slip the next stitch (as if to purl) and without bringing back the yarn, knit the next stitch *, Repeat * to * until the last stitch, slip the last stitch and bring the yarn in front of the work (it will remain on hold until the third turn).
.
SECOND ROUND WITH CONTRASTING COLOR ♦ Join the contrasting color in front of the work and hold the yarn in front with the thumb and forefinger of the left hand, * slip the stitch as if to purl, yarn over the needle to bring it forward (the yarn has wound the right needle and forms a diagonal bar on the needle), keeping the yarn in front of the work knitting the next stitch (with the yarn passing over this stitch)* Repeat from * to * until the last stitch: the last stitch is purled with the yarn passed over on the previous round. Bring the 2 strands behind the work to begin the third round.
.
THIRD ROUND WITH MAIN COLOR (In English BRIOCHE KNIT or its abbreviation BARK) ♦ With the main color, knit the first stitch. Bring the yarn back, slip the next stitch (as if to purl) and without pulling the yarn behind, knit the next stitch (with the yarn passing over this stitch) purl. *, Repeat from * to * until To the last stitch, slip the last stitch and bring the two strands in front of the piece to knit the next round.
.
FOURTH ROUND WITH CONTRASTING COLOR (In English BRIOCHE PURL or its abbreviation BURP) ♦ With the contrasting color, * slip the knit as if to purl, pass the yarn over the right needle to bring it back to the front, keeping the yarn in front of the work knitting the next stitch (with the yarn that goes over this stitch) purl *. Repeat from * to * until the last stitch: the last stitch is purled with the yarn over from the previous round. Bring the 2 strands behind the work to knit the next round.

Now for a little fun here's how to increase in the brioche stitch

Since you know how to increase the stitch, here is how to decrease the stitch: decreases inclined to the left and decreases inclined to the right ...

I invite you now to practice to refine your knitting brioche technique. Once again, I know that you risk getting out of your "comfort zone" and the learning period can sometimes be tedious (and frustrating !!) but do not get discouraged: as it is by forging becomes a blacksmith, it is while listening to Biscotte that one knits a "brioche"
